The parish is called Brompton Regis or King's Brompton as it was known as because. the manor belonged to the king in Doomsday times, when it was called Brunetone. The name may, however, derive from a visit by King Stephen. Brompton may mean town near broom
Guests may come and go as they please and if I am around there is always a complimentary tray of tea or coffee and homemade biscuits available. Dinner is optional but needs to be ordered the night before. I use local produce wherever possible and all meals are freshly prepared and the homemade desserts are complimented with clotted cream. Tea, coffee and mints are served afterwards in the sitting room If guests have special diets please let me know in advance. Guests are welcome to bring wine or spirits to the table.
January 2008 Country Wide Films Productions made a film in the area called The Brendon Hills in January, Country Ways. We were one of the 5 local businesses featured on it. It was shown on ITV. The crew all stayed here while making it, which was great fun. Exmoor has some of the darkest skies in the UK and is hoping to be the first National Park in the UK to receive Dark Sky status.
